Hybrid OTT and IPTV Streaming Using our Media Player on Android TV

When operators move to STBs, based on Android TV, they primarily utilise OTT (Over-The-Top) services for linear media content delivery. While OTT is widely popular and flexible, it has high requirements on the network infrastructures and backend, which is not always feasible for all customers. This is where existing IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) networks come into play again, providing a highly efficient alternative for content delivery.

The primary benefit of IPTV lies in the highly efficient transmission with the ability to offer almost instantaneous channel switching, significantly enhancing the user experience. Additionally, IPTV is known for delivering content very close to real-time broadcasts. This makes it an ideal choice for live sports, news, and other real-time content.

Our Inaris Media Player now supports hybrid OTT and IPTV operation on Android TV platforms. The IPTV feature is available as an extension to the already existing highly efficient OTT playback function of our player. For the integration into the TV app, OTT and IPTV streaming is controlled via the same API, which provides the best flexibility for hybrid operation. We support various Fast Channel Change (FCC) and standardised Retransmission (RET) methods for IPTV, plus our advanced monitoring and analytics infrastructure. Integration with existing CA systems is prepared and can be done based on the product requirements.

By integrating IPTV support, we have once more enhanced the versatility of our media player making it even more adaptable to varying network environments. For more information about the Inaris Media Player visit our product page or contact our team.
